Despite the fact that Halloween celebrations are not a typical Czech holiday, a large number of students let their imaginations run wild. In addition to the typical witches, vampires, mummies, skeletons, and the dead, many cartoon characters such as the Simpsons and Rick Sanchez and superheroes came to life. There were also mad scientists, animals, mushrooms and even things that are common in the US: peanut butter and jam.
During breaks between classes, students walked around the school to see all the different costumes and got candy for trick-or-treating. Through a QR code, students could vote for their favorite outfit in categories such as funniest, scariest, or cleverest for the final costume competition showdown.
So who were our winners?? The class with the MOST costumes (vyšší gympl) was 4. B – our FIRST PLACE winners overall were Honza Dostál and Petr Jeřábek as Pat a Mat, and Eliška Nejedlá, Patricie Vanická, and Laura Kheilová as rock, paper, scissors came in second. The class with the MOST costumes (nižší gympl) was KVARTA – some examples include Karla Říhová and Nikol Shánělová as pb&j; Matyáš Erik Miler as Snow White; Honza Drobílek, Markéta Sobotková, Martin Ravonjison, Daniela Borovcová as Inside Out; Adéla Horáková as a mushroom; Anna Svatošová as the Joker; and Antonín Hošek as a vampire. As for individual awards, Čeněk Pinkas (1. A) as Shrek won first place with almost 40 votes, second place went to Jakub Lustig (2. B), and third was tied by Bára Macková (2. B) and Jirka Kučera (tercie). Honorable mentions include Jakub Háněl (prima), Sebastián Vanický (2. A) as Walter White, Jakub Kulhánek (2. A), and Eda Příhoda (3. A) as Eddie Munson.
A very big THANK YOU to everyone who participated in creating a pleasant atmosphere throughout the entire school. And of course, thanks for their willingness to take dozens of photos – the foggy day made the ideal backdrop of a spooky Halloween. Can’t wait to see what kinds of costumes show up next year!
